You may have seen our recent Facebook post on a customer's cedar cladding project and wanted to know a bit more about it. This article offers some initial information on the different types of cladding we stock and why cedar may be the one for you!

Transform your Garden

There are many innovative ways of transforming and utilising your garden space using different timber products. As we move into the winter months a fantastic way to ‘spruce’ up your home and garden (no pun intended) can be to use cladding. Cladding has multiple uses, but perhaps its most common use is to cover the sides of sheds or the front of houses.

Sheds are more than just a spot to store items. Sheds are extremely convenient and can be used as a space to do projects, hobbies, work or just relax.

Your Cedar Questions Answered

What is the best wood to use for a Garden Shed?

Quay Timber stocks a range of different claddings and all produce a different aesthetic and finish. For those looking to keep their projects inexpensive, we stock softwood v-joint in various thicknesses, shiplap cladding and log lap cladding. Whilst Cedar and Larch cladding are a more expensive option, they last longer and produce a much more contemporary look.

Are Cedar Sheds Worth it?

For external cladding purposes, Western Red Cedar is one of the most naturally durable cladding materials available. Cedar also has minimal knot content making it a popular choice for those who want their projects to have an amazing finish. This customer used our untreated 25x150mm Cedar Cladding to create this amazing shed.

How much Cedar Cladding do I need?

This depends on a number of things, such as:

  • Whether you use our 150mm wide or 94mm wide cedar cladding
  • Whether you run your cladding horizontally or vertically
  • The hieght and width of your shed
  • How many sides of your shed you want to clad

We are more than happy to help you work out what you need and supply it to you.

How do I protect my Wooden Cedar Shed?

Cedar has natural antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, allowing you to leave the wood untreated without worry of excess warping, rotting and cracking. It does weather overtime and changes to have a silver-grey appearance, this leads to a much more rugged look than cedar which is stained.

You can slow down the rate at which it becomes grey in colour by reapplying a UV treatment.
